Dire Wolves Walk on Water and Hunt God

When the old dragonslayers began winning the war, wolves feasted on draconic flesh. Mystical radiation spread throughout their bodies like untreated cancer. Viral, aggressive, painful, it crushed their bones into dust and rebuilt them into longer, stronger things. Frames filled out with more muscle and fur grew darker and longer and intellects were cultivated. So direwolves were born.

They are tall as horses, as thick as bears, as vicious as wolves, and as smart as dragons. They are solitary hunters but sometimes form small packs of 3-7 direwolves. They are viciously strong and hunt and are hunted by spotted hyenas. They devour drakes of all kinds and terrorize kobolds like how an abusive parent terrorizes their child. A pack of 15 to 30 direwolves can take down a grounded dragon.

This is because the radiation has poisoned them too.

Direwolves have the sight of devils and thus no darkness, no matter how arcane, can blind them. Their jaws bite through steel and stone alike. Their paws let them walk on both shadow and water. Their hides resist spears and spells. Their tactics adapt and are ever brutal.

Once, the God Prince Jan-Kuk hunted a superpack of 50 direwolves. He was equipped with the Holy Instruments that had slain a dragon whose claws crushed mountains. He and his entire retinue were massacred to the man and his body utterly consumed. Ever since then, direwolves have had a taste for god flesh and monthly do they attempt to invade the City to feast on its rulers.

Damn that's a big dog.
